From START to FINISH layout tutorial.

Today I present my creative process from start to finish at Studio Calico blog! During my work I used supplies from June’s ‚Hello, hello‚ scrapbook main kit and some of my favourite supplies from the shop.

Where to start? – prepare a neutral base for your layout (I used Studio Calico ‚More White’ cardstock for this project) and try to combine a basic composition. Try to compose also a Calendar Mask into your project together with a photo. Prepare some labels and other printables from’ Hello, hello’ collection and two/three colours which you will be using. My choice was: yellow, orange, pink/red with a pop of creamy salmon.

When I made a decision how my basic composition will look like and where I want to place the mask I mixed two shades of Mister Huey’s mist – ‚double yellow’ and ‚canyon’ to create a suitable, delicate orange shade. When my new, self-made Mister Huey’s colour was ready I start misting the mask on the background in very gently way.

When mists were already dry, I sticked a piece of lovely yellow patterned paper and the photo (I used dimentional foams to stick the photo to the base). Next I started to paint areas next to the photo using peerless watercolour papers and Mister Huey’s watercolour set.

In my next step I added some doodles made with Neocolor II crayon – which is one of my favourite medium last weeks. They are like perfect watercolours with a pop of acrylic paint pluses. Here I used a ‚Salmon’ shade.

Now it’s time for the main point of this tutorial – rainbow stripe pattern – how I got this effect? I used a huge stipe-pattern brayer which is unapproachable now in Studio Calico shop, but I know that lots of you already bought it month ago or you have other brayer stamps at home – so you will be able to create your own rainbow pattern at home using other supplies. So, I took this brayer and covered it using all theree colours of Color Theory ink pads: yellow, orange and pink, one by one – like a rainbow. Than I applied it here and there at the background.

At the end of my work, I added some labels, stickers, printables and gems from the ‚Hello, hello’ scrapbook main kit and I wrote one of my favourites phrases using a nib and black ink.

June for me is a month when me and my fabulous hubby have anniversary, so this year it will be 8 years since our wedding and this time spent together is a pure happiness for both of us. I hope that this combo give you just a piece of my warm feelings I would like to share with you during this month.

‚Hello, hello’ reveal!!!

Hello, ciao, hola, bonjour!!! 🙂 This is the reveal day at Studio Calico – one of our favourites day durign whole month. Did I mention that this month’s kits  are devine?! Everything inside reminds me summer days at the beach, wind in my hair, salt with sand on my feet… oh my! summer is so close and thanks to the ‚Hello, hello‚ supplies I felt this mood a little bit earlier this year 🙂

These few hours before the official reveal (the pre-sale for subbers start right now), I want to show three of my June’s projects. As usually I start from the Scrapbook Main Kit Only layouts.

I had a lot of fun creating this project. I used a lot of various media in yellow–orange–pink palette and some fancy supplies with an awesome ‚June’/calendar mask which is a part of a scrapbook main kit.

Talking about the inspiring combo for this month – I prepared something for you! I grab few of my favourites supplies from the shop in this palette and I created a goodie-mood board. I used most of these mediums during my work with ‚Hello, hello‚ kits and I find this colours best for June’s kits. If you are already a Studio Calico subber you know, that you can combine your orders from 27th of every month for a whole week! This way you save your money becasue you pay the shipping costs only one! I think it’s cool and it’s a great bonus for people who are subbers 🙂

This layout is something completely different – it is placed somewhere far, far away from the happy , summer palette. I stuck here in the spring mood, took this peachy pink colour from the part of John’s Lennon’s wall which we visited during our travel to Prague at the begining of April and mixed it with green shade from the main kit. I used transparent alpha from the kit as a stencil and I draw these letters using precision pen and Neocolor II crayons.

This work – when I finished it I finally had time to look at the Studio Calico gallery and than I realized that this work is as oryginal as vintage Santa Claus in a Coca-Cola’s advertisment for Christmas… yep… I realized that whole gallery is full of painted stripes like these 🙂 poor me! I was so happy that I found an inspiration in those stripes from the blouse on the picture! That I found a good way to present these exclusive, awesome Color Theory acrylic paint from the main kit! Well – it happens, sometimes… I embossed ‚hello’ wood veneer using white ZINK embossing powder and… I saw simmilar projects in the gallery, already posted. Crap! Anyway – I added lots of stamps from scrapbook add-ons: ‚Hola‚, ‚Ni hao‚ and ‚Bonjour‚. To stamp some of them (from the ‚Hooray’ set) I used Color Theory inks in various shades.

My love for mini albums…

I will start from the citation which I found at Shanna’s Noel’s blog. These words are everything what I would like to tell you today about my love for mini books: „Let’s face the facts. There is just something special about mini books, they are a little treasure that only we know the true value of. They are are pleasure to make and just make you feel good when you complete one and can hold it in your hand as your flip thorugh the memories. „ This is also my words, this is what I am thinking about when I write about this ‚mini feeling’.

I want to remind you (and remind to myself) some of my favurites mini book I made during last years. I hope you will find some inspiration here to create your own album.

Starting from my totally favourite – ‚HEY GIRL’ mini 🙂 Not only the main theme is spectacular, but I am still in love in this colour combo – neutral grey background and vibrant cyan/lime green elements are at the top of my list.

This mini was made two years ago (I published it at 1/06/2o12), it’s title is ‚Louvre‚. This is a short story about my best friend and her first daughter (almost my daughter as well 🙂 They were lived in Paris than and we spent fabulous time together walking around the city with little Basia who was only 4 months than!

And at least mini book based on the old pages from the book – ‚Hugs & Kisses‚ – with a photo series of me and my beloved Jan, made also in June 2o12.

Letterpress & watercolour mini book classes :: latest spring in Paris and BCN

I was waiting for so long to publish this album – so sorry for that, I just forgot about it! I created this mini at the end of January, just before my classes in Paris (Maisons-Alfort – j’adore!!!). The main point for my students were letterpress technique and watercolour tips & tricks. Unfortunatelly these letterpress goodies are not visible on these pictures; some of the prints were ‚blind’ and really light – but they are there, belive me! 🙂

‚Hello, hello’ sneak peek!!!

I just can’t believe that it’s time for sneak peeks again! I was off for a loooong time, but I promise you that during the upcoming month I will be here more often with new tips and some tricks.

This month we are usually travelling, seaside is our destination in June.
